Steel Cotton Music Project

During 2025 and 2026, a series of walking maps linking all the stations along the railway line between Sheffield and Manchester have been created by the High Peak and Hope Valley Rail Partneship.
Each map links two stations on the route, intended to act as guide for lovers of walking and trains, put together by all the partners of the Sheffield to Manchester railway and curated by the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership.
This project aims to tell the story of what made the railway such an integral part of life along the stations en-route. Using music and the spoken word, and being told by those who live and work along the way, we hope that the Steel Cotton Music Project will take around two years to bring to fruition.
The new trustees Bamford Community Arts and Crafts have made the Steel Cotton Music Projects one of its ongoing projects, drawing together members of the Creative Writers Group and others to help support the writing of the project. In the next two years we hope to have prepared a music / spoken word performance, as well as a book including the maps, art trails, places to visit and stories along the way.
If you would like to get involved, or have a story to tell, please get in touch. Here are some links to whet your whistle.
